Workshops
​COPASAH member organizations vary in their experience and skills about implementing community monitoring for accountability. Formal training courses and workshops were planned with a view to generate collaboration between members and aimed at facilitation and capacity-building support to the organisations. The workshops conducted included:
  1. South Asian Practitioners Workshop on Community Monitoring for Accountability in Health in Mumbai, India from February 20 – 22, 2013
  2. South Asia Region Workshop on Social Accountability and Community Monitoring in Health in Delhi, India from September 21 – 25, 2013

FACILITATED LEARNING EXCHANGE VISITS
​As a method of peer learning the Facilitated Learning Exchanges have been conducted by COPASAH in the different regional nodes of practice. The facilitated learning exchange visits consist of a three part process- an introductory workshop, a field visit and later a debriefing session to agree on the way forward for implementing the learnings. These visits are envisaged to facilitate peer learning and to enable strengthening of the practitioners’ forum.
  1. South Asia Region Facilitated Learning Exchange Visit-1 from December 17 – 19, 2013 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India helped participants learn from the women’s struggle for community monitoring of maternal health rights and functioning of the Mahila Swasthya Adhikar Manch (MSAM).
  2. South Asia Region Facilitated Learning Exchange Visit- 2 from January 22 – 24, 2014 in Tumkur, Karnataka, India gave the participants an insight into the accountability challenges in work with Dalit communities with rich discussions on history of Dalit struggle against oppression, the rise of Dalit movement, the issues the community confronted and the efforts being undertaken to advocate for change in their lives and to ensure accountability of service providers and government for their welfare and dignity.
  3. South Asia Region Facilitated Learning Exchange Visit- 3 from September 18 – 20, 2014 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India   helped practitioners to learn from the accountability and monitoring initiatives being undertaken in Maharashtra, India.
  4. South Asia Region Facilitated Learning Exchange Visit with Naripokkho partners in Barisal, Bangladesh was conducted from 19-21 February, 2014. The key members of Naripokkho under the Women’s Health Rights Advocacy Programme (WHRAP) benefitted from this exchange visit.

TARGETED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
The technical assistance aimed at providing members in-depth interaction and technical assistance through other more experienced practitioner(s) with the intention to improve their overall practice of community-based accountability or for specific problem solving. This was achieved through the following:
  1. Technical support in Bangladesh- Abhijit Das (CHSJ) gave technical support to orient women mobilised by Naripokkho in Dhaka from 17-18 February, 2014.
  2. Technical support in Nepal- With the support of CHSJ, Beyond Beijing Committee, Nepal  organised a half day introductory session on the concept of Community Monitoring and social accountability at Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. Rakshya Paudyal, who was part of the COPASAH workshop held in Mumbai, and second peer learning visit in Tumkur, introduced the concept of Community Based Monitoring and Social Accountability and discussed the principles, essential features, process and tools for community monitoring. E. Premdas  (CHSJ) supported the Nepal team through skype, email and with a personal discussion with the team members of BBC.   3. Technical Support in Pakistan: South Asia COPASAH regional coordinator and regional Secretariat (CHSJ, India) have provided continuous support to the proactive members of COPASAH in Pakistan. Continuous engagement has been made with COPASAH practitioner Gulbaz Ali Khan, of Citizen Engagement for Social Service Delivery (CESSD) for expansion of COPASAH in Pakistan and active discussions are ongoing with him in the region.  Skype discussion was carried out with Gulbaz on February 28, 2015 at the COPASAH global Steering Committee meeting held from February 28- March 1, 2015 in New-Delhi, India. COPASAH South Asia regional coordinators provided support to CESSD for setting COPASAH table at Primary Care Management Committee (PCMC) Conference held in Islamabad (Pakistan) on March 19, 2015. COPASAH products/material (pendrives, templates of banners, knowledge products) and copies of COPASAH Communiqué were provided to CESSD for the stall. The South Asia regional coordinator has elicited writings from Pakistan and these accountability experiences have been published in the COPASAH Communiqué.
