About the Project

  • The Centre for Health and Social Justice has been pioneering an approach to working with men and boys on social justice issues and our experience is that men and boys can be involved in changing social hierarchies at the family and household level if they are involved as partners in a joint quest of equality and social justice.  This approach is based on our understanding that patriarchy and gender divisions which are responsible for the control and subordinate position of women, and for male privileges, are not always advantageous to all men.
  • CHSJ is implementing a project in 30 villages in Bundi and Udaipur districts, Rajasthan two partner organisations which work directly with the adolescents in their respective areas. This approach enables to distil robust lessons and test and develop a model which can be applied at a larger scale.
  • The intervention is being implemented in two clusters of 15 villages in each Bundi and Udaipur districts (Rajasthan). Fifteen villages under 5 Sub Centre areas and one PHC in one block will comprise the implementation unit of the project, and thus the project will have two such implementation units. At the village level the intervention will be implemented through adolescent/youth groups or clubs bringing together boys and young men in the age group 15 – 25. Each of these clubs will include both in-school and out of school and will be facilitated/ supported by a Community Animator who will be from among the older youth in the village. This project is supported by Ford Foundation.
