CHSJ needs Men who want to work on Gender Issues

The recent horrific incident of the gangrape and murder of a 23 year old physiotherapy student in Delhi has highlighted a deep scourge in our society and the extremely vulnerable position of women. It has focussed on the importance and need for mainstreaming gender issues in all walks of life. There is an increasing consensus that the role of men and the notion of ‘masculinity’ has to examined, questioned and redefined for any effort at improving the status of women to succeed.

CHSJ has been working on finding ways of engaging with men on gender issues since its inception in 2005. It has been part of a decade long effort which is currently underway in many districts in the states of UP, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and some other states that seek new ways in which men can engage on gender issues and be creative partners of women’s empowerment as fathers, brothers, partners and sons. CHSJ has also been anchoring the secretariat of a national network called Forum to Engage Men (FEM) for gender equality, which is developing an alternative discourse on masculinities and brings together practitioners working with men to share their experiences. All of CHSJ’s efforts on engaging men and gender issues are closely allied with and inspired by feminist thought and human rights practice.

CHSJ seeks to consolidate its work with men on gender issues and is looking for Men who are inspired to harness their professional skills into a passion for social transformation. We are looking for persons with skills in programme management, research and/or documentation, community mobilisation, use of social media alongwith a commitment to work for a shared future where men and women can live together with mutual respect and without fear. We are seeking young as well as more experienced colleagues who would be interested in joining our small team. For more information about CHSJ please visit our website www.chsj.org

If you are interested, please email us a copy of your resume at recruit@chsj.org by 15th of February 2013, with a note explaining your interest in the issue.

Challenging Opportunities to Apply Professional Skills for furthering Social Justice

Are you looking for a challenging opportunity for improving the lives for the poor and underprivileged through better policies? An opportunity where you help research and advocate tough policy options in the area of public health or gender justice, then read ahead. The Centre for Health and Social Justice (CHSJ) is seeking to strengthen its team. We are looking for team members who are concerned about the real life struggles of the poor and marginalised especially women; who are open to challenge policy and programmatic solutions that do not provide the anticipated results; who are willing to experiment with new ideas and interventions which put people in the driver’s seat of the solutions that are expected to improve their lives. Over the last five year CHSJ has been working closely with many organizations in the so called backward states like UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, among others, trying to bring people and public policy around health closer, through building evidence and creating opportunities for dialogue. We also work closely with men and men’s groups to build sensitivity and concern around deep-rooted gender discrimination and towards a future where men become equal partners for creating a gender just society. We apply principles of social science and public health and build credible evidence for facilitating social change.

We are in the process of strengthening our core team and are looking for both senior and mid-level researchers and advocates who are looking for opportunities to apply their skills and understanding for meaningful change in the policy domain and at the community level. Some previous experience in working on health issues or issues of social justice is expected, some proficiency in using both English and Hindi along with a third language is desirable, and a deep and abiding concern for social justice is essential. CHSJ is committed to providing a learning environment and challenging professional opportunities. It also provides opportunities to work with leading academics and practitioners in its respective disciplines. At CHSJ we do not provide a comfortable high paying job but promise challenging work opportunities, an equal-opportunity working environment and a fair compensation.

If this sounds interesting and if you wish to join our team please send us your cv along with a page or two describing your social justice vision and how you feel your joining CHSJ can help you in fulfilling it, and how you can use your existing skills sets. A reply to recruit@chsj.org will be helpful.
