UNDERSTANDING GENDER AND MASCULINITIES:

AND ENDING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

May 21-24, 2018, New Delhi

For Young Development Practitioners, Trainers and Students Across the Country

LAST DATE FOR REGISTRATION  AND PAYMENT: APRIL 9, 2018

Male inclusion has been a gap in gender mainstreaming efforts and is vital to move the gender equality agenda forward. The idea of involving men and boys in interventions aimed at achieving more equal relationships between men and women is part of a relatively new conceptual framework. There is a deepening realization that while men and boys are implicated in violence and discrimination against women and girls, men and boys are themselves the victim of risks associated with views of masculinity. In order to understand masculinity and initiate work on gender equality and male involvement therein, critical examination of men’s power and privilege and current constructs of masculinities are necessary prerequisites. Over the last few years, development practitioners and scholars have come to recognize the need to engage with men and boys while working towards gender justice. This welcome shift requires theoretically clear and successfully applied knowledge on how to understand and work with men and boys at various levels.
