Men and Gender Equality
_ Challenging patriarchy and working towards gender equality is an integral part of CHSJ's mission. We believe that working towards gender equality must include working with men and boys to understand their privileges as well as the compulsions that they face within a patriarchal system.
_ The work in Maharashtra is an initiative based on the belief that gender equality through men’s changed perceptions of their masculinity and roles in society are possible if they are given opportunities and spaces to reflect and analyze their situation in larger context of power and relationships.
The overall goal of this project is to bring about positive changes in the lives of women in rural communities of Madhya Pradesh, especially in the context of maternal health by reinforcing a process of public and social accountability. This will include addressing the social determinants that affect maternal health by highlighting men’s accountability as responsible partners and parents within the family and society; and improving the quality and utilization of public health service by addressing the accountability of health systems to the community.
The overall goal of the project is to seed community level social change processes in different locations across the country where men start taking active roles in their families and communities for securing women and children’s rights and bringing equity. Through this project CHSJ seeks to integrate a child rights perspective to its existing work with Men on Masculinity, Gender Equality and Human rights.
