In a bid to provide nutrition to pregnant women from the financially-weaker sections of the society so as to check the number of underweight new-borns, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said here that the State's Health Department was contemplating providing health-drinks to pregnant women when they visited hospitals for check-ups. Ms. Banerjee, who also holds the Health portfolio, pointed out that West Bengal had a high child mortality rate. She said the high rate of underweight new-borns was attributable to the poor health of their mothers. Read more
