About 1.27 lakh infants in Rajasthan are not able to celebrate their first birthday every year, while 1.05 lakh children die annually before attaining the age of five years. These figures of infant and child mortality are compounded by the fact that 44 per cent of the children below five years are malnourished in the State. This situation can be tackled to a great extent by practising breastfeeding. While exclusive breastfeeding should be done for the first six months, complementary feed should be provided to infants after six months. Read more
