Ranchi: June 14, 2011
Moved by encouraging results of public scrutiny in containing corruption in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) programme, the Jharkhand government is now contemplating social audit of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)—a component of Universal Health Insurance Scheme launched in 2004. The State Labour Department has been asked to draft suitable framework so as to allow public scrutiny of the scheme. Labour Secretary Vishnu Kumar said the entire exercise was intended to minimise the grievances of beneficiaries in getting the benefits of the schemes particularly in rural areas.
