Health authorities in Ernakulam district, where worries about water-borne diseases like hepatitis and typhoid are growing, say that the situation is not that alarming. They blame water shortage, which compels people to use whatever water is available regardless of its quality, for the spread of the diseases. While there is a rise in the number of hepatitis cases this year compared to last year, the Health authorities say this is due to high reporting of cases.
