In a first of its kind action, the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council has deregistered a doctor for five years for doing gender selection tests on childless couples. Sources in the Council said that its Director, Dr. C.M. Tripathi had issued an order removing Dr. Nirmala Jaiswal's name for a period of five years from the register under provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act. She is the first doctor in Madhya Pradesh against whom action has been taken under the Act which seeks to prohibit sex selection and female foeticide. Read more
