An advisory by the American Board of Internal Medicine’s foundation issued on Thursday has described 135 medical tests, treatments and other procedures as almost always unnecessary and often harmful. This includes simple allergy tests and chest xrays (before surgery) to CT scans for kids’ minor head injuries or abdominal pain. Medical experts say in India, where 80% of care is provided by private practitioners, the problem of unwarranted prescriptions is even bigger. Read more
