Guwahati: 11th January 2012
Aimed at improving the health condition of pregnant women and newborn babies, the "Janani Shishu Suraksha" programme, would be launched in Assam on January 30 this month. Under the scheme, free transport, diet, drugs and diagnostics to all pregnant women and sick newborns across the state would be provided, Assam’s NRHM Mission Director Prateek Hajela said. The scheme is likely to promote institutional delivery and eliminate out-of-pocket expenses which act as a barrier in seeking institutional care.
