20,000 more beds for maternal, child health care

New Delhi: 31st October 2012

To meet the growing demand for institutional deliveries, the government has enhanced the bed capacity of public health facilities exclusively for mother and child care by a whopping 20,000 beds. To be implemented under the Reproductive and Child Health scheme, the increase in the bed numbers will benefit 10 States that have bad health indicators but a heavy patient load for institutional deliveries.

13-year-old gives birth to boy; no case registered

Authorities of the SAT Hospital here have reported to the police an incident wherein a teenager, hailing from Kottarakkara in Kollam district, gave birth to a baby boy on Monday last. The 13-year-old girl,a Class VIII student, was admitted to the hospital here on September 20 in an advanced state of pregnancy, with severe complications.

NHRC still awaiting States’ report on pre-natal sex selection

Recognising pre-natal sex selection as an unacceptable form of gender discrimination, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had asked key States across the country to submit a report on implementation of the Pre-conception & Pre-natal Diagnostics Techniques (PCPNDT) Regulations and Prevention of Misuse Act (Amendments in 2004) based on a set of recommendations issued by the NHRC. A reporting format was also sent to all stakeholders.

In Malegaon, convincing the reluctant is still polio challenge
