The recent changes in the regulatory framework for conducting clinical trials were aimed at ensuring safety and efficacy of drugs on humans, Deputy Drugs Controller of India S.E.Reddy said here on Friday. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved the proposal of the Department of Health Research under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the setting up of 10 regional labs, 30 State level labs and 120 medical college level labs under the scheme for establishing a network of laboratories for managing epidemics and natural calamities. The infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR) in 11 Maoist-hit districts including the Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput (KBK) region were alarming, Union health secretary Keshav Desiraju said.
