Taking a cue from global trends, India is beginning to turn its attention towards adolescent health, with the government in the process of finalising a National Policy on Adolescent Health. The theme of this year’s World Population Day (July 11) also centres around the wellbeing of adolescent girls, with data suggesting that globally about 16 million girls aged 15 to 19 give birth each year. Complications from pregnancy and child birth are the leading cause of death among girls in this age group, especially in developing countries such as India. Read more
