The Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, V.K. Subburaj, said that the 400 doctors would be appointed through direct recruitment to fill long pending vacancies in the State. “Districts such as Ramanathapuram have 50 per cent vacancies in the post of doctors. Other districts such as The Niligiris and Nagapattinam also have high vacancies. We will be recruiting doctors by placing advertisements in newspapers,” he said. Around 30,000 medical personnel, including 7,000 doctors, had been appointed in the last four years, he said.
