REPOSITIONING FAMILY PLANNING - MEN WHO CARE

This project was initiated to contribute to improved Reproductive Health (RH) status and reduced vulnerability for women through men assuming a supportive role in planning families, pregnancy, and in new born care. This project was support by Natoram Sekhsaria Foundation (NSF) and Centre for Health and Social Justice (CHSJ) was responsible for management and monitoring of the project.
 
The impact of work by the animators termed Aarogya Mitras is that people began to coming forward to avail of reproductive health services. Men have started approaching animators and facilitators for counselling on issues of sexual health for themselves and their partners and helping accessing RH services. In addition, the relationship between animators and facilitators with village level health service providers like ASHA, ANMs, anganwadi workers (AWWs) and multipurpose workers (MPWs) has been strengthened and there is increased support for their work in the villages.
 
Project Area: Tuljapur block in Usmanabad, Usmanabad block in Madha and Chiploon block in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra
 
Project Partner: Kamdhenu Bahuuddeshiy Samajik Sanstha in Usmanabad, Samyak in Madha and Sanwad in Ratnagir.
