Building Pressure on State Government to do away with Two Child Norm

CHSJ and National Coalition against Two Child Norm and Coercive Population Policies have been successful in building pressure on the Rajasthan government to do away with the two-child norm being followed in the State. Out of continuous efforts of the civil society organisations in Rajasthan several legislators now openly demand for a review of this practice which bars individuals from contesting the panchayat and municipal elections and disqualifies employees from promotion and other incentives.

Continuous advocacy efforts with national and international organisations, many international and national organisations have agreed to take up the issues of two child norm and coercive population policies into their agenda. The National Human Rights Commission has taken up the issue of two child norm in their agenda. The materials prepared by 2CN Coalition was extensively used NHRC as advocacy materials.  The NHRC has agreed to take proactive steps to get the 2CN removed from PRI election and other schemes.

Various new organizations and individuals have shown their inclination to become a part of the advocacy process. This has contributed to an increasing number of partners at the state and national level. CHSJ's work on addressing coercive population policies has strengthened through the participation of these partners in various events that have been held in the project year.
